The passing of Edward Donley
Mr. Edward Donley, Leonard Parker Pool’s handpicked successor to lead Air Products, was also named by Mr. Pool in his will to serve as one of the original Trustees to lead The Dorothy Rider Pool Health Care Trust. Mr. Donley served as a Pool Trustee from 1976 through 1982 and as a Trustee of The Rider-Pool Foundation until 2010. During his tenure with The Pool Trust, he saw The Trust grow by more than 64% from its original $15,000,000 to $24,538,634.
Mr. Donley oversaw the awarding of more than $7.8M across 164 grants. The Lehigh Valley Poison Center, the Lehigh Valley Stroke program, the Lehigh Valley Hospice and the Burn Center at Lehigh Valley Health Network were all initiated under Mr. Donley’s guidance.
Edward F. Meehan, MPH, Executive Director of The Pool Trust and The Rider Pool Foundation, remembers Mr. Donley as the quintessential community leader, thoughtful, caring, and a role model for others. “Ed Donley was a staunch advocate for improving the health of the Lehigh Valley, especially as it related to children. The Lehigh Valley simply would not be as good as it is today, were it not for Mr. Donley. He will be missed.”
